I totally agree with you Sir, but the question that arise in my mind is whose the society!?...US!? yes US! We live in it.
Looking at composer of our society today, we have to first ask ourself what are the expectations we have as 'Man'. and then we can go on discuss among ourselves and perhaps in keeping steady path and away of our selfishness we might reach noble concept of Manhoo, which still might have nothing to do with the scriptures expectations.
We all come in this world with total ignorance of divinity, so we look to our superman ( Dad) as example and form our own expectations of the Man we wish to become .Then the trouble come when we get baptized in two different seas.
- the first for most cases is the dead sea, or the society...in which we try hard to swim and muscle ourselves to impress others with achievements accomplished. so we feel we can mastered our fields and succeed...or just manage to endure and keep our head above waters. this become an acceptable concept in which we realize all are heading, so... may the best win.
- the second is the scriptures aka the word of God, the sea full of life...let keep it simple as God, can we!?

So this second in which we get baptise 'seems' to come too late(John2: 7-10)ho,ho! am in trouble...
. it's just like after having a sumptuous meal of cheap food, but never less fulfilling the purpose of an empty stomach, then we get served the the exquisite dream meal and cooked only by loved one of our life(please don't narrow your mind by the idea of your dream wife); we genuinely try our best to enjoy the meal but the we can't really finish it, because we are already full so most the it go to waist.
again it's liked, a child that came from a shower and was sent back to shower the second time because he didn't do it right, honestly in the child view that could be really annoying, or he will just not see the relevance of it....after all he got 'wet' on the first time!?
Brethren forgive me for answering this question up side down and going through and out of so much tra la la ( forgive my french)...but am coming where you are. I was just trying to illustrate the struggle in which, perhaps most of been trough;
maybe now you see me. The society has sold this concept of manhood for so 'long' in various type: stature, status, sexuality,size, love, finance, ....ouf! please help me,am out breath citing them.
It seems that for so long the concept has been,grew and has it became true...just like the Darwin theory of evolution, remember!? This make me think of Pslam11:3; so what can we do huh!.....sadly brethren we can not be justify by that beautiful scripture because of verse 5. the test is every thing the word throw at us. we have to stop pick them from the floor. Instead let climb the tree and grab that sweet fruit hanging( the one that is allowed.....hi hi hi hi), and with that we get the beautiful view from up the tree. the concept Manhood from the society is on the ground where everyone can just pick it up. I doubt that it's unrealistic, matter fact if unrealistic mean, a real man got big shoulders and tall...well the one the cap fit will pick it up...how real is that to him!?!
